Coming from the outskirts of Mumbai, Shardul Thakur is a right-arm medium pacer, who achieved his first taste of first-class cricket for Mumbai in 2012-13. Known for his aggressive pace bowling, Thakur's breakthrough season came in 2014-15, where he took 48 wickets at 20.81 and occupied the bowling chart. Due to all his success, Punjab selected him for the eighth edition of the Indian T20 League.After some successful home seasons, Thakur caught the attention of the selectors and made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2017. Although he took a wicket in his first two matches, there was a good possibility of taking Shardul along with the team for the tour of South Africa in 2018. In the only match played there, Thakur did enough to stay in the lead role in the team with 4-wickets. He has been a part of the Indian T20I team and the Indian selectors have shown confidence in his abilities.
Thakur has also represented Pune (2017) and Chennai (2018) in the Indian T20 League where he was an important member of the bowling unit.
